moroccan textures • Berber Desert Music

  • This recording turned out really well even though it was recorded on a windy evening and I thought the wind would mess with the microphones. I captured this one as we sat around the campfire enjoying the music from the local young Berber musicians who had accompanied us on our trip through the Sahara Desert.
The instrument heard accompanying the drums here are called the Krakebs, which are large castanet-like percussion instruments commonly heard in the Gnawa music of Algeria, Morocco, Libya and Tunisia.
moroccan textures is a series of field recordings made whilst travelling around Morocco.
