Jazz Day: Jazz Women in Africa

  • Women artists and music producers in Africa still face significant challenges in achieving visibility for their work. This is due both to limited access to global platforms that promote their artistic output, and persistent stereotypes in the music industry that limit the potential of younger generations.
At 11 am New York / 17h00 Paris time on April 30 join extraordinary women artists and experts in the music industry from across Africa for a dynamic discussion on how to solve these and other pressing problems for women artists on the continent. Featuring Lady Maah Keita (artist, Senegal), Violet Maila (Music In Africa Foundation, South Africa), Josiane Maténé (3MJ Consulting, Gabon), Luc Mayitoukou (Zhu Culture, Senegal), Fatoumata Pindra (Optimiste Produktions, Senegal), Laura Prince (artist, Togo), José da Silva (Lusafrica, Cape Verde) and Melody Zambucko (Crossroads Music, Zimbabwe).
Produced by Anya Music for UNESCO.
The International Jazz Day 2022 education and outreach programs are presented with major support from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation, the International Partner of International Jazz Day.
