Linos Wengara Magaya - Taisireva - Zimbaremabwe - Zimbabwean Mbira Music

  • Taisireva is one of the old traditional Mbira songs, which is recognised by most Zimbabweans, whether they play Mbira or not, as well as people who connect with Mbira all over the world.
In our message, the song is saying, "the Mbira has been playing while I was travelling on my way. It was playing for three solid days non stop. Lord, send your angels with good hearts, Lord send your angels to help the poor people, Lord give a caning (punishment) to those rich people who devalue and laugh at poor people. Lord, give more blessings and power to those rich people who help the poor. Lord, we are poor people, we've got nothing. There are so many poor people who have got nothing.
In this song, Taisireva means "We used to say". This is a parable; Taisireva is a word used by ancestors meaning that they have warned people about something, but when they don't listen to the warning, they face the consequences.
"Mother, what shall we do, we keep having so many problems, even though we are trying. When the song says "amai", meaning mother it refers to all female spirits.
It also gives a warning to other people who know us, saying that "we used to be friends, but now we are growing apart because of quick misjudgements of natural situations such as being away from home.
"Please Lord, help us, oh help us. Please Lord, look at us, oh look at us. Please Ambuya Nehanda (Lion queen of Zimbabwe), look at us, oh look at us. Please VaChaminuka (King Lion of Zimbabwe), look at us, oh look at us. Lord what shall we do, oh what shall we do. Some are troubled with headaches and diseases, some have crippled legs, some are blind, some are very poor. What shall we do. Help us.
